Frequently Asked Questions

Q - When and where are the RiderCourses offered?

Classes begin in April and continue into October. Courses are conducted at Monroe Community College's Applied Technology Center, 2485 WEST Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623

    Q - How can I register for a RiderCourse?

You can register on line.  Click on the "Rochester" block at left, read and follow all information

Q - How much does the course cost?

$275.00 payable on line at time of registration.  If you need to register in person, please visit the Workforce Development Department of the Damon City Campus of Monroe Community College, 228 E Main St, Rochester NY

Q - Will I receive a confirmation?

Yes, you will receive a Course Registration Confirmation e-mail and a Receipt via e-mail.  Check your Junk or Spam mail box if you do not receive it almost immediately.  If you do not find it, send and e-mail to Workforcedevcorrespondence@monroecc.edu to request a confirmation

Q - Is there a cancellation list?

If a cancellation occurs, the Section is updated to reflect an open spot.  You would need to check the College's website on a frequent basis to find and register for that spot.   It is better to sign up for a course you know you can take.  That way you are guaranteed a spot

Q - Do I need a NYS Motorcycle Learner's Permit?

A NYS Motorcycle Learner's Permit should be obtained prior to attending and required to apply for the Road Test Waiver of the NYS DMV's Road Test

You do not need a motorcycle learner's permit to register or participate, but you should have it  when you attend your first classroom session to apply for the Road Test Waiver of the NYS DMV's Motorcycle Road Test.

If you posses an out-of-NYS license, your state of residence may recognize the NYS MSF Completion Card as a Road Test Waiver. You should question your home state DMV to find out.

Q - Will I receive my license at the end of the course?

You must successfully complete the course to qualify for the Road Test Waiver of the DMV Motorcycle Road Test.

When you are successful, you receive a NYS-specific Motorcycle Safety Foundation BRC Completion Card to take to DMV.  Present the Completion Card, your current, valid NYS Driver's License and your current, valid NYS Motorcycle Permit  to receive your Interim NYS Driver's License with motorcycle endorsement (Class "DM").  DMV will mail your photo license as is their policy.

Q - What do I do if I need to cancel, reschedule or if I am not sure when my course is?

Send an e-mail to: Workforcedevcorrespondence@monroecc.edu with your request

Q - Can I bring and ride my own bike?

While training motorcycles are provided for this combination classroom/hands on program, it may be possible to bring your own street legal motorcycle.  Contact Learn 2 Ride via e-mail for more information.

Q - What if I miss my first session, can I receive a refund?

You can not miss any sessions.  You need to arrive on time and prepared.  No refunds are issued after the start of a course.

Note the start date in your schedule.  You must attend ALL of the course sessions or you will forfeit the entire course fee.  There can be no switching classes.  Also, you must allow additional time in your schedule (usually Saturday afternoon / evening and/or Sunday, late afternoon / evening) for the possibility of inclement weather conditions for motorcycle riding.  Although classes will continue in light rain, there is the possibility that the RiderCoaches may need to reschedule for the safety of all concerned at their discretion.  You must attend this reschedule or risk forfeiture of the entire course fee as well.  You must attend ALL sessions of the course to be eligible for state benefits.

Q - What must I do to pass the Course?

You must attend and participate in all sessions, pass s 50 question, multiple choice Knowledge Test and a riding Skill Evaluation.

Q - What if I do NOT pass either the Knowledge Test and / or the Skill Evaluation?

Knowledge Test - If you do not pass the Knowledge test, you may retest on another day.

Skill Evaluation - If you do not pass the Skill Evaluation, you may retest within 30 days.

There is no charge for Retests.
